There was simply no love lost between civilian and Army team fans at Kamuzu Stadium today.

Big Bullets and suspected Mighty Wanderers’ sympathisers momentarily ganged up to rally behind the People’s Team as they beat Kamuzu Barracks 2-1 in an ill-tempered TNM Super League match.

Abullets ndi abale athu!

Wanderers fans on the Southern terraces chanted as Bullets led in the opening half through Sankhani Mkandawire and Fischer Kondowe’s nineth and 44th minute opportunistic strikes.

Bullets’ first second-round win, which saw them claim position fifth on 28 points, came after Harvey Nkacha and Kelvin Malikebu’s efforts were ruled off-side. Despite suffering their second consecutive defeat, KB clung to the summit on 30 points.

The soldiers’ miserable afternoon was summed up by winger Benson Hojani’s 90th minute red card for slashing down a ball boy he felt was playing delaying tactics in bringing the ball back on the field.

Bullets, who started the game with a one-minute silence in respect of their departed defender Lesley Tamutamu, looked the brighter of the two sides. The People’s Team poured forward with man-of-the match Dalitso Sailesi’s penetrative runs troubling the shaky KB defence which showed no discipline.

Bullets looked suspect at the back but relatively sharper upfront. In the nineth minute, Kondowe’s corner was headed powerfully into the net by Mkandawire. It was an unlikely goal from an unlikely source. It was Mkadawire’s second goal for Bullets. Kondowe finally added the second through a direct free-kick.

In reply, KB thrice sliced Bullets defence open on the counterattack but either eventual scorer Harvey Nkacha or Joel Chipofya lacked the final killer punch. Nkacha made amends when he turned to sweep the ball past Owen Chaima in the 48th minute.

Bullets hung on to win the game. KB face Evirom today (Sunday) at the same venue.

In other games, Epac United beat Mponela United 4-2 with Ishmael Thindwa bagging a hat-trick whereas Frazer Menyani claimed a brace for the losers.

In Nchalo, Sparrow Msowoya’s lone goal was enough to hand Blantyre United a 1-0 win over Mafco.

In Lilongwe, Silver Strikers maintained a clean sheet under new coach Stain Chirwa despite a strong effort from Moyale. The game ended in a goalless draw.

Green Harawa messed up three clear chances while Moyale’s Deus Nkutu had an equally bad afternoon.

Chirwa blamed the draw on injuries among his players, including Harawa and Ndaziona Chatsalira.

But Moyale coach Nicholas Mhango blamed his charged for wastefulness in front of goal.

The Bankers are second on 29 points whereas Moyale are sixth on 27 points.
