Bedir International School officials, accompanied by some political leaders in Chikwawa, visited Mthumba Model Primary School, which also has a nursery, and Mthumba flood victims camp where they distributed 150 bags of maize flour, 200  Bedir branded note books, 50 pairs of Bedir branded shirts and dresses and 60 pens, among other items.

About 150 families benefited from the relief items in Chikwawa North Constituency.

Kunakbayev said in an interview the gesture, meant to help people affected by the floods, was also designed to teach students at Bedir the spirit of giving, which he said is part of the Malawi culture.

“We recently had a cultural day at our school where students showcased different food cuisines sampled from across the globe. They put this food up for sale after the show and we had agreed that funds realised from that would go towards supporting the flood victims. We are here today to fulfill that pledge,” the school’s director said.

Ndalanda Ward councillor Clement Kamoto commended Bedir for the kind gesture shown, adding the students that benefited from the help would be motivated.

He said the children have also in a way learnt the spirit of giving and would do the same to others in future.
