Some parents of children with walking difficulties have expressed gratitude to the Rotary Club of Bwaila-Lilongwe for donating wheelchairs.

This follows a recent donation of two wheelchairs worth K480 000 to two children with walking difficulties in Ntchisi District.

In an interview with Malawi News Agency, Joseph Mackez from Mbewa Village in sub-Traditional Authority (T/A) Masanya in the district, hailed the club for the support given to his 14-year-old son Mathias.

“For a long time my son was just staying home because going to school was a challenge. For this reason, I am grateful to Rotary Club of Bwaila-Lilongwe for the wheelchair donation. The support is a relief to problems my son has been facing,” said Mackez.

Another parent, Emily Mlongoti from Nekha Village in T/A Kalumo in the district  also thanked the club for helping her 13-year-old daughter, Agnes.

“When our daughter was young we used to carry her from one place to another, but now she has grown up and it is difficult for us to carry her. We are happy to receive a wheelchair from Rotary Club of Bwaila. We are grateful for the support,” she said.

Rotary Club of Bwaila-Lilongwe has since last year been providing wheelchairs to children with walking difficulties in Ntchisi, Lilongwe and Dowa districts.

The club’s president Stella Kasirye said they are focused on supporting children with disabilities in the country.

“One of our focus areas in this rotary year is to expand our Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) index, so the inclusion part we want to focus on children with disabilities especially those with the disability that takes away quality of life,” she said.
