Bradford, Limbe Rotary Clubs donate to QECH
Rotary Club of Limbe in conjunction with its counterpart in Bradford West in the United Kingdom on Thursday donated assorted medical equipment to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital.
The items –an oxygen concentrator, a patient monitor and pulse oximeters—were donated to the Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Department.
Presenting the donation, head of international and local projects at Rotary Club of Limbe Muhammed Tayub said the donation is aimed at helping in Covid-19 management.
“It is a fact that the country remains overwhelmed by the pandemic; not to mention our frontline health workers who are working round the clock just to help save lives.
“Since we cannot thank them enough for their continued sacrifices they make for the nation, we felt we could help in a different way; hence our donation today from our brethren in Bradford,” he said.
Tayub added that the donated items were made with an eye to remain relevant even in the aftermath of the Covid-19.
Speaking when receiving the items, ENT department head surgeon Dr Wakisa Mulwafu thanked the rotary clubs for the gesture, saying the donation was timely.
“Of all the needs that we can have as a centre, I’m sure everyone here would opt for modern tools and equipment for us to do our job properly. Obviously, the donated items will go a long way to make that job of ours smooth. I can therefore pledge that these items will be put to the intended use,” he said.
Mulwafu was also excited at the prospect of getting additional equipment for the centre after the local rotary club pledged to continue soliciting for more medical items for the department.
This is the second time in ten days that the Rotary Club of Limbe has come to the rescue of the referral hospital.
Last week, the club also provided meals to the hospital staff working in the Covid-19 wards.
