Brian Mungomo returns to MCP

Renowned politician Brian Mungomo has returned to mainstream politics with a call for affirmative action to empower ordinary Malawians economically.

He made the appeal in Zomba on Tuesday as he rejoined the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) after spending 20 years in the diaspora.

Mungomo: It felt like coming home

He is quoted in the statement as having said: “I would estimate that approximately 80 percent of our economy is dominated by non-indigenous actors while many of our fellow countrymen struggle to access basic opportunities.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to once again serve the party that I was actively involved in between 1993 and 1999.”

The politician stated that he still supported MCP while abroad and that rejoining the party in power felt like returning home from a long journey.

MCP regional chairperson (East) Foster Mtandama said Mungomo’s experience with the party makes him a valuable asset.

Mungomo’s last post in MCP was that of deputy national elections chairman for the 1999 polls before relocating to South Africa.
