FCB Nyasa Bullets president Konrad Buckle has said the People’s Team should set their eyes on achieving much more after winning a historic quadruple last season.

Speaking on the team’s clean sweep for the first time in an interview yesterday, the business magnate said: “I am extremely proud of what the team achieved last season, it was amazing.

“We have set the pace for football competition in Malawi and this should translate to the performance of the [Malawi] National Football Team.

“But we shouldn’t sit on our laurels, we have a lot of work to be done.”

Buckle said the club’s management is arranging a gala dinner to celebrate the unprecedented success.

He said: “That is where I’ll speak more. This is something that has never happened before in Malawi and I have every reason to be excited.

“I congratulate everyone that was involved in this success from the players, to technical staff, supporters as well as management and indeed the board. So, big up to everyone.”

When the team retained the TNM Super League title for the fifth consecutive time and 17th overall, the club’s coach Kallisto Pasuwa and captain Precious Sambani presented the two trophies to Buckle and he said he was hopeful that they would win one more or even complete a clean sweep.

He said then: “I know that we have been playing with endless injuries and it has been a tough season.

“It was tough to stay ahead, but look at what you have achieved. You must be proud of yourselves.

“That’s what the fans should understand; the hardwork, dedication and everything else that goes on behind the scenes so that we keep on winning the cups.”

After completing the quadruple Pasuwa  also said despite the clean sweep on the domestic scene, they were not there yet.

The Zimbabwean gaffer said there was still a lot to be done to transform the side into a formidable team to be able to compete on the continental stage.

“We can only measure our strength in tournaments like the CAF [Confederation of African Football] Champions League,” he said.

Apart from the TNM Super League and the Pachema FDH Bank Cup, Bullets also won the Ibongetse Castel Challenge Cup and Zamadolo Airtel Top 8. They also scooped the NBS Bank Charity Shield.
