Bullets go two points clear on top

 FCB Nyasa Bullets on Sunday extended their lead at the top of the TNM Super League to 17 points following a convincing 4-0 victory over Red Lions at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

The defending champions took advantage of their rivals Mighty Mukuru Wanderers’ 1-0 loss to Chitipa United at the same venue on Saturday to consolidate their lead at the summit.

Current top scorer Lanjesi Nkhoma scored his seventh goal of the season in the fifth minute, but Bullets fans had to wait until the 70th minute for the second goal which came from forward Anthony Mfune.

Midfielder Stanley Billiat scored the third goal in the 88th minute before left-back Precious Sambani wrapped up the day with the fourth goal in added-on time.

In a post-match interview, Bullets coach Kallisto Pasuwa said they played with an offensive mind. He however, lamented some missed scoring opportunities.

“At least in the second-half have we managed to utilise our chances.

“Otherwise, we need to work on it,” he said.

Meanwhile, Silver Strikers have replaced Wanderers on second position following a 4-1 victory over Bangwe All Stars at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

Striker Stain Davie scored a hat-trick while Patrick Macheso scored the other goal for the Bankers.

Bangwe All Stars scored their consolation through forward Chikumbutso Salima from the spot.

The Bankers now have 15 points from seven games while third-placed Wanderers have 14 points from the same number of games.

Silver coach Pieter de Jongh said he was happy with the team’s performance after a draw against Mighty Wakawaka Tigers on Friday.

He said: “I think we are on the right track. I think we are playing the best football in Malawi.”

In other matches, Civil Service United narrowly beat Kamuzu Barracks 1-0 at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe through a Binwell Katinji gaol while Dedza Dynamos Salima Sugar and Tigers settled for a one-all draw at Dedza Stadium.

Dedza scored through Clement Nyondo while Trouble Kajani was on target for Tigers.

Moyale Barracks and Blue Eagles drew one-all at Mzuzu Stadium with goals from Tonic Viyuyi for the Malawi Police Service outfit while Gastin Simkonda scored for the Malawi Defence Force side.
