Bullets rally fans for Tanzania trip

Nyasa Big Bullets have urged their fans not to give up on the prospects of the cteam upsetting the tables against Simba SC in Sunday’s CAF Champions League preliminary round second leg at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

The appeal follows a lukewarm response to the club’s planned road trip for the fans to Tanzania.

The People’s Team lost the first leg 0-2 at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe last Saturday and they face a daunting task of turning the tables away from home.

Nyirenda: We are targeting 40

In an interview yesterday, Bullets chief executive officer Suzgo Nyirenda said the response so far has not been inspiring.

He said: “We are targeting at least over 40 supporters and so far the response has not been convincing, possibly because of the first leg result.

“But the battle is not yet over and I am appealing to our fans not to give up.

“Miracles happen in football and if they [Simba] were able to score two goals, we can do the same in Dar es Salaam.”

On his part, the club’s director responsible for supporters Stone Mwamadi also urged the fans not to abandon their team.

He said: “Yes, we are down, but not out. We have a good away record in as far as this competition is concerned.

“If the fans travel to Dar es Salaam, they will make a big difference because they are our 12th player.

“We can draw lessons from Simba supporters whose impact was felt during the first leg.”

Bullets legend and former coach Kinnah Phiri, who guided the team to their first-ever and only qualification to the group stages in 2004, also said the battle is still on.

He said: “The odds favour Simba as they will carry a two-goal lead going into the second leg at home, but Bullets can still turn it around depending on their approach.

“They have nothing to lose and, therefore, need to go full throttle for an early goal so as to unsettle their opponents. This is football and anything can happen.”

The supporters are scheduled to leave tomorrow arriving in Dar es Salaam on Saturday.

The bus fare is K90 000  and those, who will subscribe through 441, will pay K70 000.

A statement from the club says those wishing to travel should have valid travel documents, Covid-19 vaccination certificate and be able to pay for their accommodation and food.

It says interested fans can make enquiries on 0999 467 488 or 0211 441 441.
