Malawi Police football team reach Sarpcco Games final

Malawi Police Football Team have made it to the final of the 2022 Southern African Regional Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation  (Sarpcco) Games in Tanzania.

The team reached the final following their 2-1 victory over Zimbabwe Police on Tuesday at Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

They will meet the host, Tanzania in the final tomorrow.

Malawi Police took the lead in the 25th minute through Mike Nyondo.

However, Zimbabwe Police equalised in the 51st minute. The game was slowly thought to end in stalemate as at 76th minute it was still at par.

Chirwa restored Malawi Police Service’s  in the 79th minute with a beautiful goal.

Speaking in an interview,   coach for the Malawi team Ken Mponda hailed his charges for the spirited performance.

He said he anticipates a tough final against the host, but was upbeat that the team will do better and win the match in the presence of Tanzania Police Force.

Mponda said: “We worked hard. I am happy for my charges,reaching the final of this tournament. This is another record we have set as Malawi Police Service. With the endurance and hard-working spirit I have seen in the team,I am confident that we will be champions.

“I anticipate a tough much considering that we are playing against the host but that won’t be an excuse, I will have a full squad on Thursday [tomorrow], Schumacher Kuwali and Dennis Nandolo, who missed the Zimbabwe game for red cards, will be available. It is coming home.”

Malawi Police Service last won the football championship in 2015 under coach Derklek Msakakuona.

Malawi Police netball team has also done the country pride at the tournament having won a gold medal.

Athletics, volleyball teams and women’s football were all eliminated in the group stages.
