Bullets to contest K26m Fifa penalty determination

FCB Nyasa Bullets have vowed to contest a Fifa Dispute Resolution Chamber order that the club should compensate their former Zimbabwean midfielder Ronald Chitiyo with $15 200 (about K26.6 million) over an employment related dispute.

The People’s Team’s acting chief executive officer Albert Chigoga said in an interview yesterday that they are not losing sleep over the  ruling.

“We are not moved with Fifa Dispute Resolution Chamber’s decision for reasons I cannot divulge at this stage.

“Obviously, we are determined to contest the decision.”

The world football governing body’s ruling further states that Bullets risk a Fifa player transfer ban should they fail to compensate Chitiyo within 45 days.

Reads Fifa’s ruling signed by its chief legal and compliance officer Garcio Silvero: “The Respondent, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, must pay to the Claimant the following amount(s): $15 200 as compensation for breach of contract plus five percent interest p.a. as from 2 January 2025 until the date of effective payment.

“Pursuant to article 24 of the Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players, if full payment [including all applicable interest] is not made within 45 days of notification of this decision, the following consequences shall apply: 1. The Respondent shall be banned from registering any new players, either nationally or internationally, up until the due amount is paid.

“The present matter shall be submitted, upon request, to the Fifa Disciplinary Committee in the event that full payment (including all applicable interest) is still not made by the end of the three entire and consecutive registration periods.

“The consequences shall only be enforced at the request of the claimant in accordance with art. 24 par. 7 and 8 and article 25 of the Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players.”

Bullets signed the 32-year-old player on a three-year contract in April last year on recommendation from the club’s former coach Kallisto Pasuwa, who is also a Zimbabwean.

He was taken on board alongside his compatriot Collin Mujuru.

However, the trio were released at the end of last season.

Chitiyo was represented in the case by his compatriot and former Zimbabwe National Football Team star Desmond Maringwa, who also represented retired former Malawian player Dalitso Sailesi in his contractual dispute with Zambian club Lusaka Dynamos.
