Bushiri calls for unity ahead of elections
Leader and founder of Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG)-Jesus Nation Church Shepherd Bushiri has appealed to politicians to prioritise unity as the country prepares for the September 16 General Election.
He made the remarks in Lilongwe on Friday during his 42nd birthday celebrations whose guest of honour was Vice-President Michael Usi.

He also encouraged politicians to put God first and Malawians at heart during the campaign period as they will be delivering their manifestos that outline their different visions for the country.
Said Bushiri: “To all politicians let the message of unity, togetherness and oneness be at the core of your affairs, together we can change our country and make it remarkable again. May this be the message you all carry while out there.
“As you prepare for the elections, I urge you to always remember that the hand of God is the only source of your strength during this period as you are moving around telling Malawians the visions that each one of you has for this country.”
In his speech, Usi commended Bushiri for his distributions to the country, especially in the areas of tourism and philanthropic work which he said has touched the lives of many vulnerable groups.
“We recognise your charity work across the nation. You have contributed immensely to the tourism sector. It is a lesson for us all not just to ask what our country can do for us, but ask ourselves what we can do for our country,” he said.
The Vice-President reaffirmed government’s commitment to engaging and working together with church leaders for the development of the country, assuring that government is open for any discussions that will benefit the nation’s citizens.
Some notable guests at the event included British-Zimbabwean businessperson and preacher Uebert Angel, United Democratic Front leader Atupele Muluzi, and his Alliance for Democracy counterpart Enoch Chihana.
