CDSS project excites Chitipa community
Community members in Traditional Authority Mwenemisuku in Chitipa District have expressed excitement with the construction of Chuba Community Day Secondary School (CDSS).
Speaking on Friday during the handover of the school, group village head Mwamalange said students from the area will no longer cover long distances to Misuku CDSS.
He said students were covering over 20 kilometres to and from Misuku CDSS and due to the long distance some students were dropping out of school.
“With this school, parents will be motivated to send their children to school,” said the chief.
The school’s head girl Noria Mtambo commended government for constructing the school but asked government to build a girls’ hostel.
“We also need additional teaching and learning materials and teachers at the school for us to access quality education,” she said.
In response, a representative of Chitipa District Education Office Mawaya Mtelekesha said authorities will look into the requests.
Chitipa East legislator Kezzie Msukwa (Malawi Congress Party) thanked government for constructing the school in Misuku.
He said the school will motivate learners to remain in school.
Msukwa assured the community that government has provided K50 million to address water supply challenges at the school.
The school comprises four classrooms, a science laboratory, administration and storage room.
The United States of America in partnership with the Government of Malawi constructed the schools under the Secondary Education Expansion for Development Project to boost access to education, especially for girls in rural areas.
