President Lazarus Chakwera has appointed Dr. MacDonald Mafuta Mwale as Governor of the Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM).
Mafuta Mwale, who until his appointment was deputy governor, replaces Wilson Banda, who was reportedly f i red by Chakwera last Friday.
A statement published last evening and signed by Secretary to the President and Cabinet Colleen Zamba said the appointment, which is with immediate effect, is subject to confirmation by the Public Appointments Co m m i t t e e o f t h e Parliament.
Reads the statement in part: “On behalf of the nation and the Government, we would like to thank Dr. Wilson Banda for his service as Governor of the Reserve Bank of Malawi.”
Mwale was redeployed back to the RBM in January last year, two years after ser ving as Secretar y to Treasury.
Meanwhile, President Chakwera has also appointed Dr. Kisu Simwaka, who was the central bank’s director of economic policy and research, deputy governor.
