Artists in the country have welcomed the move by MultiChoice Malawi to conduct a production workshop for Malawians focusing on music videos and movies.

The digital satellite television provider has arranged with M-Net and Channel O to hold the workshop on December 18 at Capital Hotelin Lilongwe.

The news has excited artists with the Film Association of Malawi (FAMA) saying the training creates an opportunity to Malawian film-makers to learn more.

“Obviously, it is very good development for Malawian film-makers as well as musicians to learn and tap from the experience of the facilitators, considering that most of our products are sub-standard. Imagine, currently there is only one music video from Malawi being shown on Channel O. So, we are happy with this development,” said FAMA acting president Ezaius Mkandawire.

Malawi’s two time Channel O Music Video Awards nominee and high flying rapper Tay Grin also hailed MultiChoice for organising the training.

“The training is important because it gives an idea to musicians on how to feature on Channel O. Again, it accords us the opportunity to get first-hand information on videos in general. For our videos not to feature on DStv, it means there was something wrong with what we do.

“I am therefore looking forward to the critique session as the organisers are calling for a sample of our work. I therefore, call upon all other artists to come in large numbers and attend the training,” he said.

MultiChoice Malawi marketing manager Chimwemwe Nyirenda said the workshop will be facilitated by Callback Dreams, a South African film and television production company based in Pretoria.
