Fosiko: We had good pre-season games

Chikhwawa United thumped rookies Green Hawks 4-1 to open the Premier Division account at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday, leaving new coach Richard Fosiko with a huge smile.

Bright Mphamba, Teleson Lino, Stocky Munthali and Ian Banda completed the rout for last season’s runners-up for the second-tier Peter Mutharika Southern Region Football League (SRFL).

Chikhwawa, who finished second to Evirom last season, led 3-0 at half-time with Lino, Teleson and Mphamba on target before completing he job after break.

“It is the kind of start that I was hoping for. I am not surprised with this emphatic win. We had sound pre-season games, including beating Escom United 4-1 and Bvumbwe Research 3-0,” said Fosiko, younger brother to ex-Mighty Wanderers mentor Felix.

In other games played on Saturday, Ndirande Icons recovered from last week’s 4-3 loss to Cobbe Barracks to beat Polytechnic 3-0. In Division One matches, Mangochi Police defeated New Stars 3-1 whereas Phalombe lost 1-3 to Luchenza Stars.
