Chikwawa wary of Mzuzu City

Chikwawa United have said they will not be carried away by their recent good results as they look forward to this afternoon’s Carlsberg Cup round of 16 qualifying match against Mzuzu City Rangers.

The winners of the match to be played at Kalulu Stadium in Nchalo will face Mighty Wanderers next weekend.

Chikwawa will go into this afternoon’s tie as favourites courtesy of their status as a top-flight league side as well as home advantage.

However, caretaker coach Thom Mkorongo and director Owen Chomanika played down suggestions that they carry a favourites’ tag going into the match.

“We have an advantage that we’ll be playing at home, but I do not think our status as a Super League team gives us an edge.

“For Rangers to reach this far it means they are a good side that cannot be looked down upon,” said Mkorongo who will not be available today as he is busy with his job in the capital city.

Chomanika said despite the coach’s absence, his team is ready.

This will be the only Carlsberg Cup match slated for today, tomorrow Azam Tigers host Bvumbwe Research at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

The Carlsberg Cup round of 16 kicks-off Friday when Southern Region Football League (SRFL) side Ndirande Icons face Big Bullets at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre while Dedza Young Soccer will host Karonga United in Dedza.

Dedza’s director Blessings Shawa said his team is ready for Karonga.

“We are not moved and when coming here, they should be prepared,” said Shawa.

Dedza has two of the tournament’s leading scorers in Ibrahim ‘Raul’ Imran and Dave Balaka who alongside Bvumbwe’s Thoko Mbandambanda have scored four goals each.
