Chimunthu Banda narrowly escapes death
The former Speaker of the National Assembly Henry Chimunthu Banda on has narrowly escaped death in a road accident in Mchinji.
Chimunthu-Banda’s car, a Toyota Prado VX series, is said have overturned several times due to a head-on collision with another car that had reportedly left its lane while over-taking other cars.
Chimunthu-Banda was behind the wheel at the time of the accident.
He confirmed in a telephone interview; “It’s true I’ve been involved in an accident. It was at Kamwendo but thank God I’m fine. The car I was driving in has been badly damaged and now a friend has picked me for Lilongwe for medical check-ups.”
According to someone close to Chimunthu-Banda, the former speaker was on his way to his farm at Kapiri Mchinji.
“As a matter of fact, I was supposed to accompany him on this trip were it not for some last minute business that he agreed I take care of first. It’s a relief he’s fine.”
There was no immediate comment from Mchinji Police as the Officer-in Charge was said to be at Police Headquarters at Area 30 in Lilongwe for what was termed “a high-level meeting within the service.”
Inside sources, however, told Nation Online that Kamwendo Police had since secured Chimunthu Banda’s car wreckage.
