Chinthenga terminates Mozambique contract

Last season’s Super League Golden Boot winner Vincent Chinthenga is set to return to the local flagship league after finding the going tough in the Mozambican top-flight Mocambola League. Chinthenga made just a few appearances for Ferroviario de Nampula.

Also set to return home is his team-mate Rafique Mussa who hardly got a run while Flames key players Chiukepo ‘Yakubu’ Msowoya and Moses ‘Luba’ Chavula are set to start a new lease of life at Costa dol Sol following the expiry of their contracts at Maxaquene.

Chinthenga confirmed in an interview from Nampula that he got increasingly frustrated due to lack of game time.

“I endured a frustrating spell in which I only made a few brief appearances. When they [Nampula] signed me, I was the Super League top scorer, but they virtually reduced me to a side show.

“I still had two more years remaining on my contract, but we agreed to a mutual termination and that means next season I will play for a team that will be interested in my services on condition that we agree on certain terms such as game time,” said Chinthenga.

Reports from Mozambique also indicate that Mussa who once played for Wanderers and Bvumbwe, is also tipped for a permanent return home.

He dismissed suggestions that they could not make the grade.

“Of course their league is more physical, but the type of play is not different from our game. The other tricky part was that they are allowed to feature only three foreign players and there was quite a good number of us,” said Chinthenga.

Chiukepo and Chavula confirmed that their one-year contracts had expired while the latter said he had signed for another team, Costa dol Sol. Chiukepo said he was still weighing available options.

However, James Nelito Pondomale, who facilitated their deals, yesterday said they are both set to join Costa dol Sol.
