Chipani Cha Pfuko (CCP) has called on individuals interested to contest at the party’s convention slated for early next year to start processing their candidature.

According to a press statement, CCP will hold its convention from January 24 to 25 2013 in Blantyre to fill all the positions in the party.

The statement said the convention will be followed by primaries to elect candidates for presidential, parliamentary and local government elections.

“We believe in transparent democracy and we want all party followers with leadership potential to have the opportunity to contest for any position of their choice, hence our announcement that the process should start now,” reads the statement signed by interim president Davies Katsonga.

He said Malawi struggles to develop because of lack of unity, something his party wants to reverse.

“You could predict how Malawians would vote in the past because most of them were ignorant, but not today. People are struggling in the village and the three leaderships we have had have given them a different sense that will be read from the 2014 poll results,” he said.

Katsonga said Malawians want a government that can ensure freedom of speech, discourage politicisation of development initiatives and put the wishes of the public at heart.
