Chiradzulu people embrace digital financial services
Community members in Traditional Authority Mpama in Chiradzulu District have embraced digital financial services, saying they are convenient.
The Reserve Bank of Malawi and the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs are engaging people in the country on the importance of transacting business and services through mobile money platforms or online banking systems instead of using banknotes.

Margaret Bito, a woman from Jekete Village, said digital financial services have helped her keep her business funds safe.
“The services such as Airtel Money and TNM Mpamba help me to keep my money safe from thieves when I am going to restock my goods since I no longer need to carry cash around,” she said.
Another community member, Mustafa John, said digital financial services have simplified access to services and goods as he can buy things electronically.
“For those of us who live away from banks just make transactions with Airtel money and TNM Mpamba agents who are available all the time,” he said.
Chiradzulu district digital financial services field supervisor Esther Kambalame urged communities to embrace digital financial services.
“Digital financial services provide a fast, convenient and secure way to send, receive and manage money anytime and anywhere. They also ensure instant payments and are cost-effective and promote accountability and transparency in transactions,” she said.
Kambalame said they encourage people in rural areas, especially those in village savings and loans groups, to conduct their businesses digitally.
“We also encourage them to open bank accounts where they can get an interest on the money,” she said.
Chiradzulu District Council community development officer Lovemore Kachala said digital financial services will improve transactions in the district.
“It will also enhance security, efficiency and convenience for individuals and village savings and loans groups,” he said
