Mchinji District Council chairperson Kennedy Chipanga has cautioned contractors engaged in projects under the Reformed K5 billion Constituency Development Fund (CDF) against compromising on quality.
He said this on Saturday during the launch of CDF projects at Rice Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) M’duwa in the district.
Chipanga said projects that fail to meet the required quality standards will be rejected. He further warned that contractors found compromising on quality risk having their contracts terminated.
“Contractors have in previous projects frustrated communities by failing to deliver quality work and meet deadlines despite being paid. We will not tolerate that this time around,” he said.
J Five project manager Steve Nyang’ama, whose firm is contracted to construct a guardian shelter at Chimwavi Health Centre, assured the authorities that the project will be completed within the agreed timeframe.
“We will meet our contractual obligations by constructing quality infrastructure to match value for money,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mchinji East legislator Goston Mazombwe (Malawi Congress Party) described the training of 470 officers to implement CDF project as a boost to monitoring.
He was commenting on the eight community projects in the constituency, which covers T/As M’duwa and Mponda.
“We will intensify monitoring to ensure that construction materials are used for their intended purposes,” said Mazonbwe.
Senior Chief M’duwa appealed to the council to complete the projects that stalled from the previous the 2024/25 financial year.
“We do not want to hear the same excuses that the council has run out of money to complete the projects when these projects were already budged for,” he said.
A community member Josiah Pikani hailed the council for the warning, saying it was high time contractors delivered quality projects.
In the 2026/27 financial year, Mchinji District Council is expected to receive K35 billion for various development projects under the CDF
