Malawi’s Cricket Academy on Friday began accomplishing its mission of getting into the Guinness World Book of Records by attempting a Longest Individual Net Session of 32 hours.
The attempt, which has a number of corporate sponsors, including the main financier TNM, aims to raise funds and the profile of the sport, according to Malawi Cricket Union president Vivek Ganesan.
Currently, Alby Shale of the United Kingdom (UK) holds of the record of 27 hours. He achieved the feat at Kia Oval in London in July 2013, to raise funds for the Rwandan Cricket Stadium Foundation.
But cricketers Gift Kamsonkho, Gershom Mtambalika, Dickson Matiya and Donnex Kamsonkho will attempt to break the record at St Andrews International High School.
They started at 6.05am on Friday and they were expected to play non-stop up to 4.05pm yesterday.
“Only one of these four guys will manage to become a record holder if our attempt becomes successful,” said Ganesan. n
