CRWB unveils K62bn Salima Water Project
Central Region Water Board (CRWB) has unveiled plans to extend water supply in Salima District through a K62 billion (33 million euros) project to provide safe water in the district.
Speaking during a stakeholders meeting on Saturday in Salima, CRWB chief executive officer engineer John Makwenda said Parliament already approved the project to be implemented with 33 million euro grants and loans from the European Investment Bank.

He said the project shall supply about 30 million cubic litres of safe water every day to Salima residents and will renovate their Senga Bay plant.
Said Makwenda: “As Salima-Lilongwe Water Project takes shape, CRWB will also undertake its project to tap water from the lake and supply to various areas of this district.
“The project will also benefit villages along the road to Senga Bay. We expect to start the project in a month or two and it will improve our service delivery and reduce water shortage.”
Salima district commissioner James Mwenda expressed happiness with the project, saying it will address water challenges in the district.
He said: “When the system was planted, Salima had a small population.
“I am excited as people of Salima because they will access safe water.”
However, Salima Civil Society Organisations Network vice-chairperson Joseph Kandiyesa asked the board to provide people with high quality of water.
He expressed concern with poor water that Salima residents have been receiving throughout the years and advised the board to work on those weaknesses.
