Two civil society organisations (CSOs) have demanded accountability and transparency in the identification of principal recipients (PRs) of Global Fund grants focusing on healthcare.
The groups have raised the demand ahead of a national dialogue meeting on the grants from today to tomorrow after the Global Fund earlier launched three new grants for Malawi worth $525 million (about K893 billion) to cover the 2024–2027 implementation period to combat HIV, tuberculosis (TB) and malaria while reinforcing local health infrastructure.

Malawi Network of Religious Leaders Living with or Personally Affected by HIV and Aids (Manerela+) and Female Sex Workers Association (FSWA) feel the meeting should be put on hold until the issues are resolved.
In a statement, Manerela+ executive director Allie Mwachande and her FSWA counterpart Zinenani Lucy Majawa said the process lacked transparency, accountability and inclusiveness.
Malawi Global Fund Coordinating Committee executive secretary Cuthbert Nyirenda was yet to respond to our queries sent on Saturday morning, but an e-mail we have seen from Nyirenda dated July 2 2026 said reverting to the Classic Application pathway is not feasible.
World Vision Malawi is the current PR in the country while local implementing organisations after financial and programming due diligence are Centre for the Development of People, Paradiso Patients Trust, Malawi Network of Aids Service Organisations and Dapp Malawi, among others.
