Dedza women embrace digital financial services
Some women in Dedza District have embraced digital financial services that the Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) is championing.
The central bank, in conjunction with AC Consulting, on Saturday conducted an awareness campaign on digital financial services targeting women in small-scale businesses and village savings and loans (VSL) groups.
Speaking in an interview, Labina Samuel, a tailor from Mthandizi in Traditional Authority (T/A) Kachere in the district, said digital financial services simplify financial transactions.
She said: “When I am doing business, I recommend mobile money transactions because it simplifies my work.
“Customers send the exact money as agreed and I do not have to go about looking for change; hence, it saves time.”
Linda Chinyanga, a businessperson from Katsekaminga in T/A Kamenyagwaza, said using digital financial services was efficient.
“I encourage customers to send money through Airtel Money and Mpamba transactions. This way it is easy, fast and secure,” she said.
T/A Chauma also commended the central bank for intensifying awareness campaign on digital financial services.
“I will encourage people to open accounts with commercial banks or transact using mobile money facilities,” he said.
AC Consulting facilitator Margaret Luis Mbwana said they will conduct the campaign in Dedza for a month, targeting markets, VSLs and area development committees.
“The government realises that women and those doing small-scale businesses are contributing to development. This is why we encourage them to know about mobile banking, TNM Mudziwathu, Mpamba Ndikankhe, Airtel Kutchova and other services,” she said.
The African Development Bank is supporting the campaign.
