Barely a year after expanding its activities to filmmaking, Dikamawoko Arts group is on the verge of making a name on the continent and beyond in filmmaking as the group will submit two films for this year’s Silicon Valley African Film Festival (Svaff) to be held in California in USA.

Svaff is an annual festival and attracts film productions from seasoned and emerging filmmakers from the African continent whose works reflect authentic African voices.

According to director of Dikamawoko Arts, Tawonga Taddja Nkhonjera, the group is sending two moviesB’ella and The Designer.

B’ella

was produced by Dikamawoko Arts in collaboration with boNGO Worldwide and the technical expertise was offered by filmmaker Shemu Joyah.

While working on B’ella, the group started working on another film, The Designer, which is being directed by 16-year-old Chimwemwe Mkwezalamba who also stars as Kalilole in B’ella. The artist has been assisted by Nkhonjera in script writing and Dikamawoko is the main sponsor of the project.

“We are sending the two movies to the film festival. B’ella is ready and The Designer will be ready by end of this month. We already booked for our participation and we are submitting the two movies,” said Nkhonjera.

He revealed that the deadline for submitting the hard copy for the movies is August 19 2013 and they have already prepared them.

“We are optimistic that we will do well at the festival. The African Film Academy trainings have introduced us to important basics of filmmaking and the stories we are telling are African, competitive, relevant and have an impact on the world,” said Nkhonjera.

Mkwezalamba said she is excited by the development: “It has always been a dream to be heard across the world. The Designer is the beginning. I am impressed with the quality in the movie and many thanks should go Dikamawoko Arts and Mid Media International for the professional and technical support they provided towards The Designer. I am coming with more films.”

Nkhonjera revealed that they are also planning to send the movies to other festivals. He said B’ella is already earmarked for the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in Czech Republic to be held mid next year.
