DPP, govt fight over projects

Listen to this article

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) leader in Parliament Mary Navicha has called on the Tonse Alliance administration to give credit to the immediate-past governing party for initiating various projects which the government is completing.

The Thyolo Thava lawmaker was reacting to Minister of Local Government, Unity and Culture Richard Chimwendo Banda’s remarks that the current government is changing the face of Zomba City.

Navicha: Give credit where it is due

Chimwendo Banda said government is, amoung others constructing a stadium, city roads, Domasi Community Hospital and Domasi Technical College.

“Zomba was neglected, but the city is now coming back,” he said.

But Navicha, who stood on a point of order, said Domasi Community Hospital was constructed under the DPP and the Tonse Alliance government should give credit to the former governing party.

“It was already constructed. This government is just doing finishings. They should learn to appreciate what others have done,” she said.

Kwelepeta: People are losing jobs in Zomba

However, Chimwendo Banda reminded Navicha that the Domasi Community Hospital project started under the People’s Party administration between 2012 and 2014.

Zomba Malosa MP Grace Kwelepeta (DPP) also stood on a point of order wondering how government is improving the face of Zomba City when the same government has moved Malawi Prisons Service Headquarters to Lilongwe and people are losing jobs.

Second Deputy Speaker Aisha Adams said by relocating the Prisons headquarters to Lilongwe, government is creating a different face for Zomba.
