Eagles vow to claw Tigresses again

After beating Bingu Tigresses for the first time during the K12 million (about $30 000) GOtv Netball Champions League’s first round in Blantyre two weeks ago, Blue Eagles Sisters have vowed to claw again ‘Amayi a Bingu’ on Saturday in the second round at Don Bosco Technical Institute in Lilongwe.

The Eagles won 39-37 in the first round of the MultiChoice Malawi-sponsored contest to become the only Lilongwe-based team to have ever beaten all Blantyre-based giants namely Escom Sisters, Tigresses and MTL Queens. The Blantyre teams are considered the best on the land.

Despite the losses to Eagles and Escom Sisters, Tigresses found their way to the summit of the five-team log table on aggregate.

Tigresses are tied on nine points with rivals Escom Sisters, but the former are five baskets better.

However, in an interview on Thursday, Blue Eagles Sisters coach Sam Kanyenda, whose side is fourth on the table with six points, said they are ready to overcome the Presidential National Netball Championship title holders.

“This time around, we will be much stronger since we will be playing at home. If we won away, [nothing can stop us from beating them at home],” he said.

But Tigresses coach Charles Mhango said they will force the Eagles on the back foot because what Police officers did two weeks ago was disrespectful of their noble status on the local netball scene.

“As you know, we are currently at the top of the log table and we want to maintain that status up to the end of the four-round league. We have sharpened our claws and we are ready for battle,” Mhango said.

Meanwhile, MultiChoice Malawi marketing manager Chimwemwe Nyirenda has said netball lovers can follow GOtv action on www.gotvneballchampionsleague.com.
