EPM donates to MJ Mission hospital

Eastern Produce Malawi Limited (EPM) on Wednesday donated Actellic 300 CS chemical work K8. 5 million for indoor residual spraying (IRS) to Mulanje Mission Hospital (MMH ) for its malaria control project.

Speaking in an interview, EPM corporate affairs manager Rabson Kachilele, the move is aimed at preventing cases of malaria that are common in the rainy season.

“Malaria remains one of the serious health problems in the country not only to the lives of children under the age of five but to adults as well.

“For the past three years they have been running this programme, results have been striking in that the hospital has not recorded any under-5 deaths due to malaria. Donating towards this initiative demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that communities in the district including those surrounding our estates live healthy and productive lives, “he said.

Kachilele added that they expect the donation will achieve its intended purpose of effectively controlling malaria transmission in the communities within the scope of the programme in saving lives as well as resources that will be invested in managing malaria cases in health facilities.

On his part, the hospital’s medical director Dr. Arie Glas said through the IRS, the Hospital has registered a significant reduction in malaria cases.

He said: “Since we launched the programme in 2018, the hospital has registered zero deaths and we largely attribute the stride to IRS.”
