Fifa envoy Ashford Mamelodi is expected to attend a FAM extraordinary meeting at Nkopola Lodge in Mangochi on Saturday.

FAM has invited representatives from all its 10 affiliates to the meeting which will crucially table Fifa’s directive to dissolve the three regional leagues and committees and form one representative group from each region.

FAM general secretary Suzgo Nyirenda confirmed the meeting on Monday when asked why the regional leagues such as the Lilongwe and Districts Football League (LDFL) was going ahead to kick off the new season on June 7 when it has not yet merged with the Central Region Football Committee.

“We have until December to work on this constitutional issue and the leagues cannot wait. Administrative issues will be happening behind the scenes. This is a suggestion by Fifa that there is a duplication of roles,” Nyirenda explained.

LDFL chairperson Dini Josaya Banda confirmed the word from FAM to go ahead with the new season. The Northern Region Football League vice-general secretary Aubrey Shawa recently said they were waiting for their sponsors Simama and FAM’s direction on how to form one regional body.
