FAM hikes Flames tickets prices

Football fans will now have to dig deeper into their pockets to watch the Flames after Football Association of Malawi (FAM)  adjusted upwards match ticket prices starting with Sunday’s Africa Nations Championship (Chan) qualifier against Comoros.

Last year, standard tickets were selling at K5 000 advance and K7 000 at the gates.

VIP tickets were at K18 000 pre-sale and K20 000 on match day while  the corporate box was at K30 000.

However, this time standard tickets are at K6 000 pre-sale and K8 000 on match day.

Mwenelupembe: We have adjusted| Nation

VIP tickets are at K25 000 pre sale and K30 000 on match day with a corporate box ticket at K35 000.

FAM commercial and marketing manager Tulipo Mwenelupembe said the price adjustment is due to high cost of organising matches.

He said: “You might have noticed that there’s a slight price adjustment for these particular fixtures. This is due to the high cost of organising football matches.

“So, we have good service providers who have also approached us to say, you know, we’re finding it tough to provide the services you need at the standards that you want. We’ve also adjusted the ticket prices a bit in order to cushion the service providers price adjustments.”

Meanwhile, Flames coach Kallisto Pasuwa has beefed up his squad with two more additions, ahead of the TotalEnergies Africa  Nations Championship tie against Comoros.

Comoros host Malawi at Bingu National Stadium on Sunday  in the first leg before the second leg set for the same venue on March 8.

Pasuwa, in  his first match after he was appointed Flames head coach, initially called 27 players for the two-legged qualifier.

However, he has now roped in Silver Strikers duo of Binwell Katinji and Uchizi Vunga, Emmanuel Allan from Moyale Barrracks  and FCB Nyasa Bullets midfielder Chawanangwa Gumbo.

The development means Silver and Bullets now both have eight players each in the Flames squad.

Other Silver players in the squad are goalkeeper George Chikooka, defenders McDonald Lameck, Maxwell Paipi, Washali Jaziya, Nixon Mwase and Zebron Kalima.

Bullets also has goalkeeper Richard Chimbamba, defender Alick Lungu, midfielders Yankho Singo, Lloyd Aaron, Wongani Lungu, Chikumbutso Salima  and striker Ephraim Kondowe.

If successful, the Flames will face the winner between Egypt and South Africa.

In other first round fixtures, Gabon will face The Gambia with the winner facing Algeria who were seeded.

The first round first legs will be played between today and March 2 while the return legs will be between March 7 and 9.

The second round first leg is set for May 2 and4 while the return legs will be played between May 9 and 11.

The two winners from second round of the play offs play-offs will fill the two slots in Group C, alongside Uganda, Niger and Guinea.
