Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has introduced digital competitions management system (CMS) for use in its elite competitions.

FAM competitions and communications director Gomezgani Zakazaka said the system will go a long way in improving efficiency in terms of how competitions are managed.

He said: “We tried it with Airtel Top 8 and the recent NBS Bank Charity Shield. We are going to do the same for TNM Super League, FDH Bank Cup and Airtel Top 8 this season.”

Zakazaka: Everything is going digital

The system generates draws, fixtures, match line-ups, technical stats and match commissioners and referees reports.

Zakazaka said: “It’s one way of going digital as alluded to in the FAM president Walter Nyamilandu’s ‘Raising the Bar’ manifesto.

“Everywhere you go, everything is going digital and Malawi football is not left behind. We also have Mpira Connect which is a digital  stakeholders registration platform.

“So, this competitions software is linked to Mpira Connect which has all players, coaches, referees data. These are transferred automatically from Mpira Connect to the CMS.”

He said the introduction of the system is a big step in digitalising competitions management

“It’s going to help us keep records in digital platform so that everything is well organised to ensure efficiency of running competitions.

“We have trained referees, match commissioners and club officials on how to use this platform,” sadi Zakazaka

FAM general secretary Alfred Gunda said the platform will synchronise the running of all competitions.

“In the past, we were delivering matches inconsistently even in the same competition. And this led to problems with key stakeholders especially participating teams.

“So we want to harmonise our match organisation operations so that all matches across the country regardless of competition or venue are delivered with same standards.”
