FAM says Nomads set to pass test for CAF tourney
Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has said the country’s sole representatives in the 2026/27 Confederation of African Football (CAF) inter-club tournaments Mighty Wanderers FC have made progress in the licensing process.
The Nomads are set to participate in the CAF Champions League by virtue of being top-flight league champions.

FAM competitions and licensing manager Clement Kafwafwa said in an interview yesterday that the Nomads are set to make the grade.
CAF set June 30 as the deadline for all member associations to ensure their clubs obtain the necessary licenses to participate in the 2026/27 interclub competitions.
Said Kafwafwa: “There is very good progress and Wanderers have submitted most of the requirements in line with the five key criteria, namely, sporting, infrastructure, administrative, legal and financial requirements.
“So far, so good and I would say we are in the final stages of finalising the process.”
He said it has not been a challenge for the Nomads to meet the requirements having participated in the CAF Confederation Cup last year.
In an interview, the Nomads’ board director responsible for football development David Kanyenda said: “We have made significant progress as we have submitted documents in respect of the relevant criteria.
“We are on course to timely complete player registration and we are immensely grateful to the club president Dr [Thomson] Mpinganjira for bankrolling us to be Malawi’s sole representative in elite African club football competitions for two consecutive years.”
In the CAF Confederation Cup last year, the Nomads were booted out at the first hurdle 4-3 on post-match penalties by Botswana side Jwaneng Galaxy after tying one-all over two legs.
