FAM, Sulom postpone matches
Football Association of Malawi (FAM) and Super League of Malawi (Sulom) have postponed all matches from September 12 to 18 due to the upcoming September 16 General Election.
FAM announced the postponement of matches under its jurisdiction on Thursday evening through a statement.

The association said it has postponed all its organised national competitions.
Part of the statement reads: “The affected competitions include National Bank Women’s Premiership and NBS Bank National Division. The decision has been necessitated by the preparations for the 2025 General Election which will affect a number of stakeholders, including players, officials and security personnel for the games. The said competitions will resume on 19th September 2025.”
FAM also urged its affiliates to consider suspending the games during the period under the same circumstances, which led to Sulom postponing all TNM Super League matches.
A statement from Sulom reads: “The decision follows guidance from the Football Association of Malawi in line with the upcoming General Election. Any inconvenience is sincerely regretted.”
The postponement of the eight TNM Super League matches caught clubs and fans by surprise, considering that Sulom and FAM already knew about the date of the elections.
Some fans who had already purchased tickets for the match between FCB Nyasa Bullets and Dedza Dynamos, which was scheduled for this afternoon at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre, demanded an explanation from Sulom.
But Sulom general secretary Williams Banda said: “Those that have bought tickets should know that they are still valid and should keep them safe.
“The moment the match is rescheduled, which is probably next week, they can use the tickets to gain entrance. Elections are very important and, therefore, they [stakeholders] should go and vote.”
