Fisd gives rural hospital K25m worth of items

Foundation for Irrigation and Sustainable Development (Fisd) has donated assorted items worth K25 million to staff and patients at Kabudula Community Hospital in Lilongwe District.

Speaking on Wednesday during the handover, Fisd executive director Kondwani Nanchukwa said the donation forms part of a double celebration, as the organisation is marking 20 years since its establishment as well Christmas.

He said they decided to celebrate the milestone by supporting people in need during the festive season.

“We are happy that we have spent 20 years in Malawi. We also thought that it should be a season when we show our love to communities here,” said Nanchukwa.

A guardian, Josephine Phiri, said the support came at the right time as they had no good meal.

“Christmas has found us while in hospital; hence, we would not be able to prepare a good meal to celebrate the occasion. We thank Fisd for making us happy,” she said.

The hospital’s director Deborah Katete thanked Fisd for the donation, saying it catered for both patients and healthcare workers at the facility.

“I’m excited about the food items for patients and healthcare workers,” she said.

Katete also commended Fisd for constructing a caravan at the hospital, but mentioned some of the challenges the facility continues to face due to the large population it serves.

“We are also facing challenges with our water tank,” she said.

The donated items included mattresses, lab coats, safety boots, stethoscopes, food items and shopping vouchers for healthcare workers.
