Fisp fertiliser to reach farmers by mid-January, says minister
Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Decentralisation Joseph Mwanamvekha has said all farmers on the Farm Inputs Subsidy Programme (Fisp) list will redeem fertiliser by mid this month.
The minister, who is also governing Democratic Progressive Party vice-president for the South, said this on Saturday during a rally at Mileme Primary School in Traditional Authority Jenala in Phalombe District.

“I am confident about this because I am the financier. As Minister of Finance, I know that we have bought the fertiliser. As we speak now if you go to Chirimba and most of the [Smallholder Farmers Fertiliser Revolving Fund of Malawi] depots, there is fertiliser.
“You can even check with Smallholder. We have imported enough fertiliser and we want to make sure that this fertiliser reaches our famers by mid-January because we want to make sure that everyone applies the fertiliser in good time,” he said.
Mwanamvekha also said the DPP administration will ensure that each constituency receives K5 billion through the Constituency Development Fund.

He said: “If you remember, President Peter Mutharika presented it in his State of the Nation Address. He indicated that come 1st April, in the 2026/27 Budget, I want to assure, you that the K5 billion will be there and the resources are there.
“We will also have the K100 million as loans for the youth and another K100 million for women. As I said, President Mutharika promises what he can do and he does what he promises.”
In his remarks, Phalombe North legislator Feston Chauma (DPP) called on the government to rehabilitate the Chitekesa-Mwaanga Road to facilitate easy travel and transportation of farm produce.
He said: “This road is very important because this area borders Lake Chilwa and the people here grow a lot of rice and vegetables. So, we need this road in good condition for easy transportation.”
The rally attracted top DPP officials, including the party’s regional governor for the South Charles Mchacha.
