If I were

Transport and Public Infrastructure Minister, I would not ignore the warning by Face Technologies (Pty) Limited that the system that government has installed at Road Traffic Directorate (RTD) would bring disruptions in services to Malawians requiring assistance at the directorate.

Yes, while I had my own reasons for turning a deaf ear to the warning, I would appreciate that as experts, Face Technologies, knew what they were talking about.

If only I were Kasaila, I would spare some time to visit the directorate’s offices in Blantyre to appreciate the challenges that people are experiencing to access services due to the confusion created by the new system.

Yes, as an honourable minister, while I might have a point on my claims that I cannot deal with the firm because it did not bid for the provision of the service, on the other hand, I would concede that I was wrong to ignore their advice on the consequences of the new system.

I would realise that the long hours that people are spending on queues at the RTD offices would have been put to better use had I listened to the free advice that was given earlier.

If I were the minister responsible for transport and infrastructure, I would review the situation with a sober mind and engage experts on how the problems can be addressed. I would also save my credibility, by apologising to all those that have been affected by the new system.

Unfortunately, I am not the fella that is Francis Kasaila.
