Local hip-hop artist Fredokiss is set to unveil a K1 million annual football trophy which will be competed for by teams in several Blantyre townships.
The rapper said he is trying to reach out and engage Blantyre youths by offering them something that can keep them away from disastrous lifestyles while at the same time nurturing their football talents.

Fredokiss: I am more than a musician

“I am more than a musician. Away from what I am known for, I am human and a youth for that matter. I feel duty-bound to make my contribution to help the community I come from. There are a lot of youths who have talent but lack the platform,” he said.

The football competition will have teams drawn from Manase, Manja, Chimwankhunda, Soche East, Ntonda, Chitawira, Naperi, Chichiri Prison, Chilobwe, Green Corner, Baluti and Catholic Institute (CI).

The official launch of the trophy will take place on December 23 and the top four teams will share cash prizes but the committee responsible for running the trophy is yet to say how the money will be distributed.

During the launch, the artist will be joined by fellow artists such as Piksy, Hyphen, Wikise, Episodez, Temwa, 4Sight, Waxxy Kay, Ethel Kamwendo Banda and Malawi national football team ace Gabadinho Mhango.
In an interview from South Africa, Mhango said he feels honoured to be invited to be part of such a noble cause which can help transform many lives.

He said: “It is important that whenever there is an opportunity where we can help our communities as young people we should do so. On the surface it may appear like it is very little but this can help unlock big opportunities for so many youths.” n
