Flames striker Frank Gabadinho Mhango on Wednesday night scored just four minutes after being featured as a second-half substitute to open an account as his new South Africa Premier League (PSL) club AmaZulu beat Super Sport United 2-1 at Moses Mabidha Stadium.

This was his second league appearance for AmaZulu as he was recently introduced in the last five minutes during a goalless draw with TS Galaxy in their opening match.

Introduced in the 61st minute, Mhango scored an equaliser against his former coach at Bidvest Wits Gavin Hunt as he lurched on to Riaan Hanamub’s strike to bend the ball into the net, sending SuperSport goalkeeper the wrong way.

Mhango: I am happy

Bonginkosi Ntuli notched the winning goal in the 78th minute.

Mhango joined AmaZulu after enduring a torment at his former club Orlando Pirates, where he side-lined for the better part of last season.

“I am happy to have opened my account at my new club. I hope this is a start of an exciting season for me,” he said.

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) president Walter Nyamilandu Manda described Gaba’s goal and return to club action as a huge relief.

“Being one of our top strikers, we were very concerned about his lack of game time. His match-fitness is very critical to the Flames and we are happy he has started scoring for AmaZulu,” he said.

AmaZulu are third on the 16-team log table with four points from two games. Royal AM leads the pack on six points from straight wins.

Mhango has so far played for five teams as he had stint with Bloemfontein Celtic, Golden Arrows, Bidvest Wits and Pirates in South Africa.
