South Africa-based forward Frank ‘Gabadinho’ Mhango has opened up on his struggles this season in which he has scored only three goals this far.

The 28-year-old was joint Golden Boot Award winner last season in the South African top-flight league with 16 goals alongside Peter Shalulile.

Mhango: Injuries have played a part

He recently opened up on the injuries he has experienced and how they have derailed his plans for the campaign.

The Flames forward was quoted by Opera.news as having said that injuries and tough competition are some of the reasons he has struggled this season.

“You might tell yourself that you want to do this and that, but injuries come unexpectedly and derail the plans.

“It was hard. Coming back after an injury can sometimes feel like starting from scratch,” he was quoted as having said.

To add salt to injury, Mhango was suspended for the Buccaneers DStv Premiership match against Maritzburg last week which they won 2-0 after accumulating two yellow cards.

But he was also conspicuously missing in Pirates latest match against Swallows on Saturday which ended one-all as he was not even on the bench.

The former Bidvest Wits and Bloemfontein Celtic striker was not available for comment on Monday.
