Mighty Mukuru Wanderers yesterday completed the K7.5 million signing of enterprising winger Gaddie Chirwa from Blue Eagles, setting a new transfer record on the domestic scene.

After negotiations which seemed headed for a listless conclusion, relief was painted across the 25-year-old’s face when he was unveiled by the Nomads directors Limbani Magomero and Chris Gondwe in Blantyre.

In an interview after putting pen to paper, the Flames rookie, who was also linked with the Nomads’ arch-rivals Nyasa Big Bullets, said he was set for a new lease of life at Lali Lubani Road.

He said: “I am excited that at long last, the deal has been finalised.

“It is every player’s wish to play for a big team like Wanderers and I can’t wait to get started.

“To the Nomads family, I can’t say much other than assure them to expect good things.”

His manager Sam Chirwa also said along the way, they were happy to have completed the move.

On his part, Magomero, who is director responsible for the technical committee, said they were happy to have completed the deal.

He said: “Of course, for a quality player like him, we expected the talks to take a bit of time, but the most important thing is that it has been concluded.”

Magomero also said they are now through with signing of new players.

He said: “Towards the end of the just-ended season, the coach proposed that we should sign six players from a list of about 20.

“It was a process that involved him consulting the media and the national team coach [Mario Marinica].

“The deals for the other five players were already completed and the remaining one was Gaddie.”

Others are goalkeeper Dalitso Khungwa and defender Emmanuel Nyirenda from Mighty Waka-Waka Tigers, midfielder Mphatso Kamanga from Karonga United, striker Christopher Kumwembe from Civil Service United and their reserve team player who has been promoted.

Magomero also announced that the Nomads are set to release and loan some players before they regroup on February 23 in preparation for the 2023 season.

Meanwhile, Blue Eagles also confirmed conclusion of the deal through a post on their Facebook page yesterday.

Part of it reads: “Blue Eagles FC wishes to inform all that it has reached an agreement with Mukuru Wanderers for the transfer of Gaddie Chirwa on a record K7.5 million deal.

“The agreement follows a chain of discussions, consultations and negotiations involving both parties. We wish Gaddie a prosperous new year and all the best for the future.”
