Ganda accused of divisive politics

Malawi Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Sam Ganda has been accused of practising politics of divisiveness and favouritism in his Nsanje Lalanje Constituency.

In a letter addressed to People’s Party (PP) president and Head of State Joyce Banda, the Southern Province organising secretary Bassa Kaligomba accuses Ganda of dismantling existing party structures to triumph over his fellow aspirants in primary elections.

“Ganda alongside the party’s Southern Province governor Isaac Nyakamera removed constituency governor Yusuf Ali and replaced him with a Mr Nyahoda. The two worked together while in the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP)” the letter sourced by The Nation reads in part.

When The Nation sought Ganda’s reaction, he denied knowledge of the allegations.

“I don’t know anything about those allegations, you better talk to the party’s spokesperson or secretary general who would speak on those issues,” said Ganda.

However, PP acting secretary general Paul Maulidi confirmed knowledge of the misunderstandings.

“People are trying to position themselves alongside particular candidates as we prepare for primary polls,” said Maulidi.
