Globe Metals appoints CEO as MD

Globe Metals and Mining, the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX)—listed company exploring for niobium at Kanyika in Mzimba has appointed the miner’s chief executive officer (CEO), Alistair Stephens, as managing director.

According to an ASX media announcement, the appointment is with effect from July 8 2013. Stephens was appointed CEO on May 20 2013 to lead the next stage of the projected growth of the company.

The miner’s chairperson, Yi Shao said since Stephens joined Globe as CEO, he has provided a “steadying influence and achieved the stabilisation of the company through his strong leadership”.

“The board believes the appointment of a managing director with a strong track record of successful rare metals project development and financing is an important and timely step for the company to further develop the Kanyika Niobium Project (KNP) and evolve from an explorer to a producer.

“The board is confident that Stephen’s extensive experience will support Globe’s operational and corporate growth objectives aimed at enhancing shareholder value,” he said.

Stephens is a qualified geologist with more than 30 years experience and is responsible for managing, developing and implementing the company’s strategy which is currently focused on delivering the DFS for KNP and supporting the company’s transition from advanced explorer to project developer.

Meanwhile, Globe is working on completing the Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS) of KNP as early as possible.

Globe is being supported by its major shareholder East China Mineral Exploration and Development Bureau (ECE) and closely cooperates with several world-class niobium tantalum experts in China to optimise the technical flow sheet of DFS to further reduce the cost and enhance the economic feasibility.

Meanwhile, a 12-member team from Globe’s major shareholder, ECE, has started exploration works on KNP in Mzimba and that good progress has been made.

The team will be based at Kanyika for three to four months and will be doing a number of works including mapping, surface sampling, reconnaissance and geophysical surveying.

Apart from KNP, the company is working on other projects and is planning to carry out new exploration work on the projects of Muambe and Chiziro in Mozambique, and Machinga in Malawi.

Globe is an African-focused resources company, which aims at becoming the major niobium and tantalum producer in southern and eastern Africa.
