Gold outshine Silver in NBM Cricket
MSC Gold Fattani has made historic entry into the semi-finals of the 25 Overs National Bank of Malawi (NBM) Cricket Tournament after outshining last year’s runner-up MSC Silver during the quarter-finals at Mpingwe Sports Club (MSC) on Sunday.
MSC Silver batted first to make 125 runs in the entire 25 overs but the spirited Gold showed their unquenchable desire to get the last-four slot for the first time since the establishment of the annual event seven years ago. They chased the runs down in 22 overs.
“We have been perceived as underdogs for too long. It is now our time to show the local cricket fraternity that we are now a strong team capable of winning the title,” said MSC Gold Fattani’s captain, Soheil Manjra.
Their paceman Sadik Bhaddi made an individual contribution of 80 runs to become the best player on the day when defending champions MSC Orange, MSC White and MSC Blue also qualified from the other quarter-final encounters.
MSC Orange, which has won the NBM competition for five years running, saw off MSC Grey by 17 runs after making 167 runs whereas MSC White and MSC Blue triumphed 181-114 runs and 141-125 runs over MSC Purple and MSC Veterans respectively.
According to Southern Region Cricket League (SRCL) chairperson Shiraz Zaveri, the semi-finals will be played this Sunday at the MSC.
