Gospel concert to empower local talent

Renowned musician Wendy Harawa has announced plans to use her upcoming gospel concert as a platform to promote and empower local gospel artists besides spreading the gospel.

She said this yesterday in Lilongwe ahead of her scheduled gospel concert slated for May 31 at Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe  organised by her Jacob Events company.

Wendy said the concert, dubbed Favour Gospel Concert, is meant to give local artists exposure as they will share the same stage with international stars.

“This event is not just about entertainment. We want people to have a good time worshipping God and give up-and-coming gospel artists the space to grow, shine and reach wider audiences,” she said.

The concert will be headlined by celebrated Nigerian gospel singer Ada Ehi alongside up-and-coming artist Lizzie Munthali who was unveiled during the briefing.

Supporting acts will include Rudo Chakwera, Ray Franklin, Theresa Phondo and Kamuzu Barracks.

Wendy added that with more support, Jacob Events will continue using such concerts to promote new talent and manage other artists.

“We want to do more to help local artists, especially up-and-coming ones, to get support,” she said.

The musician said people should expect powerful worship experience to give a spiritual break from life’s challenges and interact with their favourite artists.

Tickets for the concert are now available at kwenda.com.

One of the local performers, Ray Franklin, expressed gratitude for the opportunity. He assured fans of a good time in the presence of God.

“This is a big platform for us. It’s encouraging to be recognised and included in such major event. It motivates us to keep going and we are ready for this,” he said.

Renowned singer Rudo Chakwera also commended Wendy for her inclusive approach which can lift gospel artists.

“You don’t go up by stomping on others, but by taking them on board. It’s time we believed in local artists. This shows selfishness which we need in the industry for growth,” she said.

Rudo said preparations are going well and fans should look forward to a different musical experience.
