Harrison to double as Nomads TD

Mighty Mukuru Wanderers have said their recently appointed head coach Mark Harrison will double as technical director (TD).

The Briton, who was initially hired as TD, replaced Alex Ngwira as head coach three weeks ago.

Harrison: Obviously it means more tasks

The club’s president Thomson Mpinganjira, who is also the team’s board chairperson, said in an interview yesterday that they would like the former Everton FC Under-23 and Bristol City coach to continue with the project of revamping the youth, reserve and first teams.

He said: “We have currently combined both TD and head coach for Mark.

“The plan to rejuvenate the whole set-up from youth to first team is now at the centre of Wanderers rebuilding. This is also the reason why Alex Ngwira has been given a new role to act as a scout for all our teams.”

The business mogul and philanthropist said the plans also include identifying players who can be exported to Europe.

“This is something Mark is capable of doing using his extensive network of contacts. We will, therefore, not be hiring a new TD, having combined the two roles under Mark.”

Harrison yesterday said he is ready for both roles.

He said: “Obviously, it means more tasks, but it is not much of a big deal.

“The only drawback is that I won’t be able to commit as much time as I should to the reserve and youth teams.”

Since taking over as head coach Harrison has won all three matches, 1-0 against Sable Farming in their last TNM Super League match and 2-0 back-to-back Airtel Top 8 quarter-finals victories against Mafco.
