Health post eases service delivery
People in Traditional Authority Mzukuzuku in Mzimba District say the opening of Mtuzuzu Health Post has eased healthcare service delivery in the area.
M’mbelwa District Council constructed the facility using K77 million from the Governance to Enable Service delivery (Gesd) funds in 2024.
In an interview, Patrick Gondwe of Mhlaba Village said they used to travel to Vibangalala Health Post and Mzimba District Hospital to seek medical help.

He said: “We only had a health surveillance assistant who would attend to our problems. But now we have a community midwife assistant who is helping expectant women and under five-children.
“When faced with serious medical conditions in the past, we would travel to Mzimba District Hospital and other health facilities, 13 kilometres away.”
Another community member Alick Jere commended M’mbelwa District Council for opening the facility, saying it is helping people access medical help nearby.
“This health post is a relief to us all. We do not need to travel long distances to access healthcare services,” he said.
Mzimba South West legislator Raymond Nkhata (Democratic Progressive Party) in a recent interview commended the council for constructing the health post in his constituency, saying most people were spending a lot of money to travel to Mzimba District Hospital.
“The situation affected them economically as they would spend on transport and at the same time, stop doing their productive activities,” he said.
The area’s health surveillance assistant Nathaniel Mlowoka said he attends to at least 150 000 people a month.
“Common cases include malaria and diarrhoea. Therefore, the health post will improve service delivery,” he said.
M’mbelwa District Council director of health services Prince Chirwa said the health post will provide services such as antenatal, vaccines and under-five clinics.
