Heavy rains cause havoc in Lilongwe

There was commotion in Malawi’s capital, Lilongwe, late Wednesday afternoon when flooded roads, after a downpour, caused traffic jams.

The heavy rains that rattled the capital city for about two hours, resulted in Lilongwe, Lingadzi and Nankhaka rivers bursting their banks and rendered motorists helpless as some main roads became completely impassable.

Area 18 and 49 were cut off from Area 18 Roundabout.

A lorry nearly plunged into a drift, after it swerved off the road.

Several perimeter walls in Area 49 Gulliver, 18 and Chinsapo were severely damaged as a result of the downpour.

Police have since said no injuries have been reported.
