“The only thing I can say at the moment is thank you,” those were the first words to come from Lawi as he acknowledged a thunderous welcome by the Lilongwe fun lovers who stormed his show at Bingu International Convention Centre (Bicc) on Saturday evening.

Initially, the celebrated musician feared that the show would flop following the pulling out of the guest performer, Awilo Longomba at the eleventh hour.

But his teaming up with Patience Namadingo and the unique set-up of the show made the event more interesting to both the patrons and performers.

The first to storm the stage was Namadingo with songs from his first album such as Mtendere which impressed hundreds of the fans.

The artist reached the climax with his hit song Mapulani, forcing the fans to abandon their seats and flood the stage.

Soon after Namadingo left the stage, Lawi showed up in his self-styled slim body outfit of a black Wilson hat, black long jacket, black pair of trousers and white pair of shoes.

He stormed the stage with Amaona Kuchedwa and Zonenanena Kuchuluka Mvula Ikagwa, winning hearts of the patrons who welcomed him by waving.

Lawi kept on pausing to thank the fans, visibly overwhelmed by the huge turn out and continued support until the end of the show.

Unlike other shows where the patrons leave before the end, fans at Bicc protested against Lawi’s intention to leave the stage as they were enjoying his performance, forcing Ministers of Health Khumbize Chiponda and Agriculture Sam Kawale to plede K100 000 each for Lawi and Namadingo to jointly perform two more songs.
