I’m not out to prove a point—Gaba

South Africa-based forward Frank Gabadinho Mhango says he is not out to prove a point to his former club Orlando Pirates, who discarded him last season.

The Flames talismanic forward said this in an interview yesterday after scoring his second DStv Premiership goal for his new club AmaZulu FC against Cape Town City in Durban the last evening.

Usuthu came from behind to win 2-1 and the Malawian forward netted the winner in the 52nd minute.

On Target: Gabadinho

He scored his first when AmaZulu beat SuperSport by the same margin.

He said: “I have nothing to prove to Pirates or anyone. I just want to enjoy my game and make up for the lost time [last season].

“Perhaps if anything, I have to prove to my new employers that they did not make a mistake by signing me.

“Scoring in consecutive games is a boost, but to me the team comes first always other than personal achievements. So, yes it looks promising, but we are still in the early days of the season and let’s see how it goes.”

As of yesterday, Mhango was second joint leading scorer with two goals, a goal behind Andre de Jong of Royal AM.

Others who have two goals are Khanyisa Mayo and Peter Shalulile.

Before yesterday’s matches AmaZulu were second in the 16-team South African top-flight league with seven points from three matches.

They were tied on points with leaders Richards Bay, who however, have a better goal difference.

Last season, Mhango endured a frustrating season at Pirates where he rarely featured until they agreed to mutually part ways.

He made an impressive debut season at the club in 2019/20 when he jointly won the Golden Boot Award with Shalulile after tying at 16 goals.
